The amount of viewers a streaming title might achieve is more fluid, if less immediately profitable than box office sales. For one, streaming content is judged on different criteria than movie releases. Streaming might hold the key to unlocking new potential for Harry Potter content. But the next two installments in that series have since disappointed, culminating in Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, which marked the lowest point in the franchise in a decade. The first spinoff following that disappointing venture, 2016's Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, was a moderate success. The franchise has been on a downward trajectory since 2011, when the last film in the original series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, set a franchise-record for worst box office performance.
